The South Korean men’s and women’s speedskating teams (11 men and 11 women) will begin their preparations for the 2023-2024 season in Canada. “The speedskaters left for Calgary, Canada, the day before and will train until Sept. 26,” the Korea Ice Sports Federation said on Sept. 31.The speedskating team, which has been training at the Jincheon National Athletes’ Village since July, plans to improve its performance and physical strength through the Canadian training camp. Calgary is a favorite training destination for athletes in sports that require cardiorespiratory endurance at altitudes of more than 1,000 meters above sea level. It will help the athletes strengthen their fitness ahead of the new season, according to the organization. The team will also compete in the Pole Classic in Calgary on September 22-24.The final selection for the 2023-2024 season, including the International Ice Skating Union (ISU) World Cup and World Championships, will be made at the 58th National Men’s and Women’s Championships at Taereung International Skating Center on Oct. 20-22.The men’s and women’s speedskating teams will compete in the first round of the World Cup on Nov. 10-12 in Obihiro, Japan, and will continue to the 2024 ISU Sprint-All-Around Championships in March 2024 in Inzell, 스포츠토토링크 Germany.
