Korea’s three mobile carriers will look for strategies to outstrip their rivals in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, through their forthcoming participation later this month in MWC Barcelona 2024, an annual telecommunications technology convention, formerly called the Mobile World Congress, the companies said Sunday. SK Telecom (SKT) will showcase its large language model (LLM) dedicated to mobile technologies during the event, which will be held in the Spanish city from Feb. 26 to 29.The SK Group affiliate plans to introduce its chatbot-based virtual agent, AI-based spam filter and AI call center, as well as its visions for an AI quantum camera and AI-based analysis of floating population .Given that the company is a member of the Global Telco AI Alliance launched last July, SKT CEO Ryu Young-sang said he will attend the event to pursue further cooperation with global partners in the AI sector. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is expected to support SKT’s efforts, as he will also attend the trade show .“MWC will be the place to introduce how our AI technology can be used in various sectors,” Ryu said. “In collaboration with world-class companies, we will transform rapidly into a global AI company.”
KT will also open an exhibition booth to introduce various services using its LLM and AI-based management of urban air mobility (UAM). KT CEO Kim Young-shub is also expected to fly to Spain, as he is a board member of the GSMA, the organizer of MWC .“For visitors from all over the world to experience next-generational digital innovation at our booth, we will showcase AI, UAM and future network technologies,” a KT spokesperson said. LG Uplus will send CEO Hwang Hyeon-sik and multiple senior executives to the event, although the company will not open an exhibition booth this year. The LG Group affiliate has not exhibited its technologies at MWC since LG Electronics shut down its smartphone business in 2021.The executives of LG Uplus plan to seek global partners for the AI business at the event venue. “MWC is an important opportunity for us to learn the latest trend of the global telecommunication industry and the AI and ICT technologies,” Hwang said. “We will strengthen global partnerships to discover opportunities for 슬롯게이밍 our growth.”
