Daejeon Hana Citizen has re-signed head coach Lee Min-sung to a new contract.
Lee was named the new head coach of the Daejeon Hana Citizen in December 2020. Since then, Daejeon finished third in the 2021 K League 2 and advanced to the playoffs, defeating Jeonnam and Anyang in the promotion playoffs.
However, they lost to Gangwon FC in the second leg of the promotion playoffs, falling short of the promotion threshold.
In 2022, Daejeon entered the year with renewed determination and finished the regular season in second place in the K League 2.
In the promotion playoffs against K League 1’s 11th-ranked Gimcheon Sangmu, the team won both the first and second games to earn promotion to K League 1, eight years after being relegated in 2015.
Lee Min-sung led Daejeon to promotion to the K League 1 in just his second year in charge.
In the 2023 season, Daejeon returned to the K League 1 after an eight-year absence and emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the early stages of the season with wins over K League giants such as FC Seoul, Ulsan Hyundai, and Jeonbuk Hyundai. 토토사이트
Despite being a legendary defender in Korean soccer, Lee Min-sung’s coaching philosophy of attacking for the three points has paid off, and the record shows it.
Daejeon has scored 54 goals, ranking third in K League 1 scoring behind Ulsan Hyundai and FC Seoul.
Daejeon’s attacking soccer has generated a lot of buzz, and soccer fans are excited.
Daejeon increased its average attendance by more than six times compared to the 2022 season, with a total of 234,094 fans and an average attendance of 13,005, ranking third in attendance among all K League clubs.
Last year’s average attendance jumped from 2,271 to 13,005, a 472% increase, signaling the rebirth of the special soccer city.
After entering the final round, Daejeon clinched its retention in the top flight with an early victory over Suwon FC in Round 34, the first match of the final round, and will continue its new challenge in the K League 1 next year.
After a solid first year in the top flight in their first year of promotion, Daejeon are now looking to set their sights even higher.
Starting with the re-signing of head coach Lee Min-sung, the team will begin preparations for the 2024 season in earnest.
“It’s been a very happy year for us, thanks to our fans who have shown us so much support,” said Lee Min-sung. “
We were able to stay in the top flight, but it’s disappointing that we didn’t make it to the top split.
Daejeon Hana Citizens is a team with a high vision and goals.
Next year, we will prepare well to be a stronger and more competitive team that will aim to reach the top division and challenge for the ACL (Asian Football Confederation Champions League).
We look forward to entertaining our fans with more wins and entertaining matches.”
Daejeon will take about a month off after the end of the season before holding its first training camp on Jan. 2 in Geoje, Gyeongnam.
On Jan. 10, the team will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, for a winter training camp to begin their preparations for the 2024 season.
