Ri Sook (20, DPRK) set a new world record in the women’s 64-kilogram weightlifting competition and a new junior world record in the lift, snatch and total to top the second edition of the 2023 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Grand Prix. Lee won the women’s 64-kilogram competition in Doha, Qatar, on Sept. 9 (local time) with a lift of 114 kilograms, a snatch of 146 kilograms and a total of 260 kilograms .In the vault, she broke the previous world record of 145 kilograms set by Deng Wei (30-China) at the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, by one kilogram .Ri Sook broke the world junior record in the lift, snatch, and total.

‘North Korean weightlifting hero’ Lim Eun Shim (27), the younger brother of Lim Chung Shim (30) and a gold medalist in this category at the Hangzhou Asian Games, finished second with a total of 113kg in the lift, 141kg in the snatch and 254kg in the total .In the men’s 81kg category, Ri Cheng Song (26, DPRK) lifted a total of 374kg (165kg in the lift and 209kg in the snatch) to beat Ramat Irwin Abdullah (23, Indonesia), who lifted 362kg (161kg in the lift and 201kg in the total). Ri also won gold at the 스포츠토토존 Hangzhou Asian Games and was North Korea’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony.
