Vietnam’s key decision-making body, the Politburo, has asked for a study on the feasibility of a vaccine-tourism system to allow international travelers to visit the tourist destination Phu Quoc, local media reported.
Phu Quoc, part of the Kien Wall, has a variety of gaming venues, including the Corona Resort, Vietnam’s first casino, which opened in January 2019, and a casino (pictured).
The order to start the vaccine-passage study was reportedly issued after a meeting of the Politburo on June 11.
Vietnam banned most inbound travel by foreigners in March last year until further notice as part of its measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Quarantine conditions will be eased separately for vaccinated people entering the country via Bandon Airport in Quang Ninh province from July 1, according to a briefing paper by law firm Baker McKenzie.
Bandon is home to a casino project being pushed by Vietnamese company Sun Group. The latter company is not connected to Suncity Brands, an investor at Hoiana Casino Resort on Vietnam’s central coast.
According to a Baker McKenzie briefing document, the formalized quarantine period applied upon arrival at Bandon Airport will be halved from 14 days to seven days: Those who have been vaccinated “fully” or recovered from COVID-19 “12 months ago,” tested negative for the infection identified on day one and day six of isolation respectively, or presented antibody test results for the virus that causes COVID-19 at the same time.
After seven days of centralized quarantine, arrivals will “continue to quarantine for another seven days” at their respective accommodations and should monitor their health for another 14 days, said a paper by Nguyen Thuy Hang and Tong Phong Ruk of Baker McKenzie.
“Those with insufficient vaccination doses will remain in intensive isolation for 14 days,” the authors said of the Bandon pilot scheme, adding that their health should be monitored for the next 14 days.
