A Greek pole vaulter competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics was found to have taken a banned substance in a doping test. The athlete claims that she did not take it intentionally.
According to the BBC on the 8th (Korean time), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) temporarily suspended Eleni-Claudia Pollak after failing a doping test after the competition.
Pollak participated in the women’s pole vault preliminaries held on the 5th. Pollak, who jumped 4.20m, failed to advance to the finals after failing to clear 4.40m.
There was a problem with the doping test that was conducted later. The test sample contained a banned substance.
The Greek Anti-Doping Agency reported Pollock’s doping violation to the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC). The HOC later announced that one of the team members had been expelled from the athletes’ village, and locals believe that the expelled athlete was Pollock.
Pollock complained, saying, “Something was found in my sample a few days ago,” and “I have never taken any supplements or protein. I have an iron problem, so I have to eat red meat every day, and (the substance) must have been in the meat. I only know that the substance is in the meat.”
Meanwhile, in addition to Pollock, Iraqi judoka Sajad Sehen, Afghanistan judoka Mohammad Samim Faizad, and Nigerian boxer Cynthia Ogunsemilore were eliminated from the competition after testing positive for banned substances at the Paris Olympics. 안전놀이터
