Park Hye-jung of the Korean weightlifting team.
South Korean women’s weightlifting sensation Park Hye-jung (20-Goyang City Hall) won the gold medal in the
heaviest weight category (over 87 kilograms) at the Asian Games, 13 years after Jang Jang-ran. Son Young-hee
(30-Busan City Sports Council) took silver to give South Korea a gold and silver medal haul.
Park Hye-jung
Won gold with a lift of 125 kg, a snatch of 169 kg and a total of 294 kg in Group A of the women’s 87 kg and above
weightlifting competition at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on Sunday at the Xiaoshan Sports Center in
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Son Young-hee finished second with a lift of 124 kilograms, a snatch of 159
kilograms and a total of 283 kilograms.
This is the first time in 13 years that South Korea has taken the top spot in Asia in the heavyweight category since
Jang Jang-ran (now Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism) at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.
Park Hye-jung, who lifted 118 kilograms in the first phase of the competition, followed up with back-to-back lifts of
123 and 125 kilograms. Second-place finisher Son Young-hee followed closely behind with lifts of 115, 120, and 124 kilograms.
Sohn opened with 155 kilograms in the first period of the dragon phase, but Park Hye-jung responded with 157
kilograms to keep the two-way battle going.
Sohn made a last-ditch effort in the third period to match her own Korean record of 169 kilograms, but came up short.
Park Hye-jung also lifted 169 kilograms in the snatch and finished with a “clean sheet” (successful in all six attempts in the lift and snatch).
Meanwhile, Li Wenyuan (CHN), one of the best athletes in the world, has withdrawn from the Asian Games due to
an elbow injury. Li Wenyuan is the most dominant women’s weightlifter in the heavyweight category, holding the
world records in the lift, snatch and total. 스포츠토토맨
