South Korean women’s table tennis ace Shin Yoo-bin (19-Korean Air) has been awarded a gold medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Shinhan Financial Group (Chairman Jin Ok-dong) invited Shin to the headquarters of Shinhan Financial in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 19th to congratulate her on winning the Asian Games gold medal.

Shin won the gold medal alongside Jeon Jeon-hee (31, Mirae Asset Securities) in the women’s doubles final of the table tennis event at the Asian Games at the Gungsu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, on Feb. 2.

It was Korea’s first women’s doubles gold medal in 21 years.



Shin Yoo-bin and Jeon Jeon-hee are the first since Seok Eun-mi (now the women’s national team coach) and Lee Eun-sil at the 2002 Busan Games.

On the day, Shinhan Financial Chairman Jin Ok-dong encouraged Shin Yoo-bin and presented her with a reward and a bouquet of flowers. Shin reciprocated by presenting the gold medal to Mr. Jin.

Since 2011, Shinhan Financial has been running the ‘Shinhan Rookie Sponsorship’ program, which identifies and supports promising athletes in unpopular sports with poor conditions.

Through this program, Shin Yubin has received support for training expenses to compete in international competitions since 2018, when she was 14 years old.

To find the next Shin Yubin, Shinhan Financial is also supporting Yoo Ye-lin (15, Bucheon Sosa Middle School), the daughter of Korea Exchange CEO Yoo Nam-kyu, and male prospect Kwon Hyuk (15, Daejeon Dongyang Middle School).

In addition to table tennis, the bank has also sponsored Yang Hak-sun, 31, who became the first Korean to win a gold medal on vault at the 2012 London Olympics, and Lee Kwang-ki, 31, who won a gold medal in the ski halfpipe in 2016
