Pacquiao excluded from Paris Olympics due to age limit

As the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would maintain the age limit for boxing athletes at this year’s Paris Summer Olympics at 40, Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao (44)’s trip to Paris was cancelled.

The Associated Press reported on the 19th (Korean time) that the IOC sent a letter to Philippine Olympic Committee officials stating that it would stick to its policy of limiting the age of boxers at the Paris Olympics to 40. 메이저사이트

The IOC has clearly stated that there will be no rule changes just for Pacquiao.

Pacquiao, who was crowned professional champion in eight weight classes and had a total of 62 wins, 2 draws, and 8 losses, left the ring after losing to Yordenis Ugas (Cuba) in September 2021.

Sports Illustrated, an American sports media outlet, made headlines in August last year when it reported that Pacquiao was exploring ways to participate in the Paris Olympics as a representative of the Philippines, citing the CEO of Pacquiao’s agency.

Pacquiao hoped that the IOC would raise the age limit to 45 in order to compete in the Paris Olympics boxing competition held at the special stadium of the historic Roland Garros tennis complex in Paris, France, but the IOC did not accept this.

The IOC raised the upper age limit for boxers from 34 to 40 in 2013.

Accordingly, Pacquiao was able to participate in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, but he was already serving as a member of the House of Representatives in his country and skipped the Olympics to focus on politics when he was elected as a senator in 2016.

Pacquiao, who later served as a senator, has lived as a politician for more than 10 years since entering politics in 2010, including running in the 2021 presidential election.

The Associated Press reported that it is unclear whether Pacquiao has prepared for the world qualifiers for the Paris Olympics to be held in Italy at the end of this month and Thailand in May. 토토사이트 추천
